Will this be the end of clear thinking in the White House?
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gets it when it comes to Hamas.
In 18 days President-Elect Obama will have to get off the beach and make crucial life threatening-nation ending decisions on the struggle for power in the world. Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, China, Russian, Cuba, Venezuela and others will not be swayed by pectoral muscles on a sunny day in Oahu.
In 18 days he will have to say thumbs up or thumbs down to Israel. Make no mistake, fence sitting is a thumbs down decision. So far President elect Obama has made no definitive statement. We must hope and pray that he stays on the path of keeping Israel a strong and supported ally of America.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice nails the Hamas situation with this statment:
From Yahoo News:
“Hamas has held the people of Gaza hostage ever since their illegal coup against the forces of (Palestinian Authority) President Mahmoud Abbas,” she said. Rice also charged that Hamas “has used Gaza as a launching pad” for firing rockets into the Jewish state and that, as a result, the Palestinians living in Gaza have had “a very bad daily life.”
Will we get the same clear thinking when Obama takes over?
It remains to be seen what President Obama will do in the middle east and around the world. We do know that he has promised to cut defense spending. We don’t know if he will follow through or not. We do know that he has designated Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State. Will Hillary have any more of an idea what to do than her husband did?
Many more questions could be asked of the incoming President,
but for now we have only these stories to help us decern the future of America’s place in the world struggle for power,
WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused the militant Hamas organization of holding the people of Gaza hostage Friday and said the United States continues to seek a “durable and sustainable” cease-fire.
Speaking to reporters in the White House driveway after a meeting with President George W. Bush, Rice also said that the United States remains “very concerned about the situation there and is working very hard with our partners around the world.”
But she reiterated the Bush administration argument that any cease-fire in fighting that is now into its seventh day must hinge on the willingness of Hamas to stop firing rockets into Israel. Rice also said she has no current plans to travel to the region.

What will Obama do with our boarders?

The state of the borders
The bipartisan civility police told us we weren’t supposed to talk about illegal immigration during the 2008 presidential campaign because open discussion would “alienate” swing (read: Hispanic) voters. Is it okay now or do we only get permission when the next major open-borders disaster strikes? My syndicated column today (see below) surveys the state of the borders — particularly the bloody chaos to our south.
On a related note, a new piece by the Associated Press (yes, a surprise) reports more extensively on illegal aliens in public housing. It was a problem highlighted by Barack Obama’s illegal alien aunti Zeituni Onyango (who still remains on the loose after years of evading her deportation order):

Will Obama succumb to lefty protesters?
Anti-Israel Group Pickets Barack Obama Residence
A small group of placard-waving pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered near U.S. President-elect Barack Obama’s vacation retreat in Hawaii on Tuesday to protest against the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
Obama has made no public comment on the strikes, which Israel launched on Saturday. Aides have repeatedly said he is monitoring the situation and continues to receive intelligence briefings but that there is only one U.S. president at a time.

Gloves coming off?

Israel has taken its war with Gaza to a new level of specificity. They have begun targeting the residences of Hamas leaders, but curiously, have decided to start warning them each before the attacks. Even more curiously, at least one of them was either too slow or too stupid to take advantage of the purported warning: (More Hot Air)

Israel May Send In Ground Forces

A story to make all the Israel/Jew haters heads explode: Israel Launches Fresh Attacks in Seventh Day of Fighting
Israel bombed a mosque and the homes of at least half a dozen Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip on Friday and allowed foreign passport holders to leave the ravaged territory, as speculation rose that a ground assault could be imminent.
Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which began last Saturday, has been carried out exclusively by air and by sea. After a day of heavy rain, the weather improved Thursday, and military analysts said Israeli tanks and other vehicles massed on Gaza’s border could more easily enter the territory.
“The forces are there, and they’re ready for anything,” said an Israeli military spokeswoman, Maj. Avital Leibovich.

New Year, Same old Los Angeles Times Anti-Semitism
January 2nd, 2009
On Monday, July 5th, 2009, I will declare a ceasefire in my coverage of Israel. I will stop recommending that Israel take its enemies and destroy them militarily, and recommend that Israel sit down and talk to the Palestinian leadership. I will then step back and promise to refuse to comment further.
Then on Tuesday, July 6th, I will break my word, and continue hammering Palestinians with justified verbal ferocity in the same way I believe the Israeli military should hammer them on the battlefield. I will not only break my word, but I will take great pride in doing so.
