David Axlerod released this extremely important message to the world yesterday:
“David Axelrod, senior adviser to Obama, chose his words carefully Sunday, saying the president-elect would honor the “important bond” between the United States and Israel.” (Yahoo News)
So I guess this means that Obama will support Israel in her struggle to survive?
“But”,
Axlerod adds this bit of important president-elect official senior adviser rhetoric:
“Pressed about how much support Obama will offer Israel, Axelrod said: “He’s going to work closely with the Israelis. They’re a great ally of ours, the most important ally in the region. … But he will do so in a way that will promote the cause of peace, and work closely with the Israelis and the Palestinians on that — toward that objective.” ” (Yahoo News)
Sounds like pre-election fence walking.
I might ask Mr. Axlerod who he thinks is our next most important ally in the region?
What will Obama do with Ahmadinejad? Can’t he just call up Ahmed and ask him to be nice?
“TEHRAN, Dec 28 (Reuters) – Iran’s Supreme Leader issued a religious decree to Muslims around the world on Sunday, ordering them to defend Palestinians in Gaza against Israeli attacks “in any way possible”, state television reported.” (Reuters)
Oh, I forgot the Ahmadinejad has no control over the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
But one would think that President Obama could sweet talk the resonable and friendly Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“All Palestinian combatants and all the Islamic world’s pious people are obliged to defend the defenseless women, children and people in Gaza in any way possible,” Khamenei said.
“Whoever is killed in this legitimate defence, is considered a martyr,” he said in a statement.” ( (Reuters)
Ahmadinejad added his 2 cents with this statement:
“Tehran denounced Israel’s attacks as “unforgivable” on Saturday. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the raids showed Israel’s “weakness”.” ( (Reuters)
Obama in the dark in Oahu in the dark on Iran,
I wonder if Mr. Axlerod told President-Elect Obama about the Iranian connection while he was in the dark in Oahu?
Analysis: Don’t forget the Iranian connection
“Among the many negative consequences of the Second Lebanon War in summer 2006 was the distraction it provided from Iran’s nuclear program.
So focused was the international community on 34 days of fighting, and so inarticulate was Israel in explaining that it was (indecisively) confronting the Iranian takeover of southern Lebanon, that Teheran slipped gratefully into the global shadows, there to quietly advance its progress toward the bomb.
Today, there is a danger of the same process repeating itself.
Hizbullah is an Iranian creation. Hamas is not. But it has drawn itself increasingly into Iran’s orbit.
Much of its imported weaponry, and the expertise with which it now produces and refines its own rockets, have been provided by Iran.
Dozens of its commanders have been trained in Iran in recent years, coming home and disseminating that “education” as Hamas has built an army in Gaza. (More form Horovitz)
The Big Question of the Day is:
President Bush always gave me the impression that the next war would be with Iran. The American people were too weak and not willing to follow his lead. I think that is why we have slowed down our plans for Iran. We have allowed Iran to grow militarily with nuclear weaponry. We have given them more credibility in the world and allowed them to spread their influence all because of the left’s constant retreating. The Democrat controlled Congress, the MSM, and the American people have weakened our Military resolve.
Now, will the American public accept a war with Iran with their new messiah-elect Democratic President?
If Obama is forced into war or stumbles into war with Iran will Americans heed the call and unite? (riggword)

Hugh Hewitt ponders the same Issues:

On one side, those nations and forces that support IsrAel’s right to exist even if they also demand a state for the Palestinians. On the other: Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamist radicals across the globe that want Israel destroyed.
This is the same conflict that has defined the presidency of George Bush and it will define the presidency of Barack Obama. We have to hope that the president-elect achieves the same clarity about the conflict that the president has, and signals early and often that there will be no negotiation with any state or entity that denies the right of Israel to exist within secure borders.
The great danger is that the new Administration will see some upside in talking with Hamas and Hezbollah or their sponsor Iran. There is no possibility of a “grand bargain” with these forces because they are not driven by any objective that can be met short of the destruction of Israel. If the president-elect conveyed his understanding of this central fact, he’d go a long way towards reassuring the world and the region that we were not in for a Carter-like epic naivete about our enemies.
