Axelrod Under The Bus!

From Hot Air:

Obama: I never talked to Blagojevich about the Senate seat; Axelrod: Yes, he did; Update: Axelrod misspoke, says Obama camp

Sweet catch by Tapper, showing why he got that promotion. Obama today

“I had no contact with the governor or his office and so I was not aware of what was happening, ” Obama told reporters today in Chicago. “It’s a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that, I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment.”

…versus Axelrod on November 23, as seen below. Be sure to read Tapper’s post, as he has plenty more on The One’s long history as a friend of — and advisor to — Blago. Axelrod himself begged off Blagojevich’s first gubernatorial campaign because “I was concerned about whether he was ready for … governing.” Not so Obama and Emanuel; they both served as advisors, and they and Blago went on endorsing each other to the bitter end. Corruptocrat alert: Blagojevich taken into custody by FBI; conspired to sell/trade Senate seat, HHS position, stifle newspaper; Team Obama contradicts itself

Scroll down for updates…

All that grandstanding yesterday by Illinois Dem. Gov. Rod Blagojevich over the Republic Windows and Doors plant closure was smoke and mirrors to distract from his corruption scandal.

The FBI was keeping its eye on the ball.

Blagojevich was taken into custody today by federal agents, the Chicago Tribune reports. The dirtbag details, which prosecutors call “staggering:”

From Yahoo News:

Obama seen untouched by Illinois governor charges

CHICAGO (Reuters) – President-elect Barack Obama’s decision to keep a distance from his state’s governor, who was arrested on corruption charges on Tuesday, should enable him to escape becoming tainted by the scandal, analysts said.

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich stands accused of trying to sell the president-elect’s vacant U.S. Senate seat for financial and other personal benefits for himself and his wife, among other charges.

“Obama is not related to the corruption pattern in Chicago,” said political scientist Dick Simpson of the University of Illinois in Chicago. “He has not been pressing for any person to replace him in his Senate seat.” (Yahoo News)

Take your shot. It’s hard to top Blago’s own words from the criminal complaint, but have fun trying!

“F*** him. For nothing? F*** him.”

From Politico:

Axe ripped Fitzgerald’s patronage purge

Patrick Fitzgerald’s charges against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich have drawn a chorus of shock and outrage.

But Barack Obama’s message man David Axelrod once staked out a much more nuanced position on Fitzgerald’s anti-corruption crusade.
In a 2005 op-ed, Axelrod argued, in effect, that trading political favors – including jobs – is part of the grease that makes government work.
He ripped Fitzgerald at the time for trying “to use the criminal code to enforce (his) vision” of “entirely remov(ing) politics from government.”

Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 7:43 PM Reading Eric Zorn’s assessment of the Blagojevitch’s character, and the prospect of the governor’s singing as compulsively as he has broken laws must have a lot of Chicagoland pols and players very worried indeed.

The Tribune’s John Kass says that Blago has only one choice: To sing loud and long.

The number of long-time Chicagoland figures in and around the president-elect’s inner circle is so large as to make a Blago-connection to at least some of them inevitable. I don’t know why the president-elect did not take the opportunity today to take many questions about his relationship with Blagojevitch. Obvious questions that will have to be answered by the president-elect in detail: When did you first meet with B? How often and how closely have you worked with him? Did you know his chief-of-staff? If any member of your Administration is implicated in any of these scandals, will you dismiss them immediately?

The MSM issued a huge pass to candidate Obama during the election when it came to Rezko et al. They cannot keep that up through an entire presidency.

Responses

  1. Some day Obama will be put under the bus. I wouldn’t want to be his friend or I will be under the bus with the rest. I know the main stream media doesn’t care.

  2. Ivan Dixon as ‘Kinch’
