Nothing Has Changed!
What do we do about the Russian invasion of our ally Georgia?
ZUGDIDI, Georgia – Russian tanks roared deep into Georgia on Monday, launching a new western front in the conflict, and Russian planes staged air raids that sent people screaming and fleeing for cover in some towns.
McCAIN:
McCain is present, decisive, controlled, and direct in his assessment and actions he would take. McCain knows that the U. N. is useless in this situation and that America must take a stand against Russian aggression. McCain is ready to lead America in these dangerous times. (riggword)
International Herald Global Edition of the New York Times:
WASHINGTON: Senator John McCain issued a detailed and forceful denunciation of Russia on Monday, saying that it seemed intent on toppling the Georgian government and that Moscow needed to understand that this would have “severe, long-term negative consequences” for its relations with the West.
McCain called for emergency meetings of NATO’s North Atlantic Council and of Group of 7 foreign ministers and for high-level U.S. consultations both with European allies and with countries like Ukraine that he said faced Russian intimidation.
He called for the United States to send economic and humanitarian aid to Georgia immediately.
Obama:
“Obama, keeping in his mode to attack McCain on some side issue that is irrelevant to the situation, accuses McCain of playing favorites. Once again showing his ineptitude for world events. It doesn’t matter what McCain’s relationships are, Georgia is a sovereign nation and an ally of the U. S. He is pathetic once again. It is the same old song, America is only in it to satisfy Republican’s personal needs and wants. Obama dosen’t see Russia as being wrong and America as the lone country who can stand up against Russia. Obama sees the world from a “Citizen of the World” Point of view. Of course he thinks the U.N, can do something; he has no clue how inept the UN is. (riggword)
Genuine Peacekeeping Farces:
Then of course Obama’s answer is to go to the U. N. which has done Diddley Squat over the years in these type of conflicts. Another leftist liberal unsafe belief that the U. N. can do anything effective. The other answer is to go to the European Union; that effective military body that has solved so many conflicts…right! And to top it off he wants to send in “Genuine Peacekeeping forces” Maybe that should be “Peace Keeping farces”. The only troops in the world that could handle this are American Troops and what a misnomer anyway peace keeping troops, hogwash! (riggword)
International Herald Global Edition of the New York Times:
“I condemn Russia’s aggressive actions and reiterate my call for an immediate cease -fire,” he said Saturday, adding: “Russia must stop its bombing campaign, cease flights of Russian aircraft in Georgian airspace and withdraw its ground forces from Georgia.” He also called for “aggressive diplomatic action” involving the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations and the deployment of “genuine international peacekeeping forces” in South Ossetia and Abkhazia.” (Times)
The Russians Are Shaking in their Cossack Boots:
Obama has no clue on how to deal with this international crises. He has no clue about power, aggression, and who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. He is not capable of running this country and keeping us safe from world wide dictators and terrorists. (riggword)
Russia Says End Of “Punishment”:
Russian orders halt to military action in Georgia
By VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV, Associated Press Writer 1 minute ago
MOSCOW – Russia ordered a halt to military action in Georgia on Tuesday, after five days of air and land attacks sent Georgia’s army into headlong retreat and left towns and military bases destroyed. More than 2,000 people were reported killed.
The death toll was expected to rise, for large areas of Georgia were too dangerous for journalists to enter. Tens of thousands of terrified residents have fled the fighting — South Ossetians north to Russia, and Georgians west toward the capital of Tbilisi and the country’s Black Sea coast.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on national television that Georgia had been punished enough for its attack on South Ossetia. Georgia launched an offensive late Thursday to regain control over the separatist Georgian province, which has close ties to Russia.
“The aggressor has been punished and suffered very significant losses. Its military has been disorganized,” Medvedev said.
“If there are any emerging hotbeds of resistance or any aggressive actions, you should take steps to destroy them,” he ordered his defense minister at a televised Kremlin meeting. (more)
I love the use of the word “Punishment” by the Russians;
Remember “We Will Bury You”

Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:05 AM Powerline’s John Hinderaker posts on the energy pipelines that are a big part of the struggle between Russia and Georgia, and Bill Kristol points out that Georgia has been a very good ally in the war against the jihadists and would deserve our strong help even if Russia hadn’t obviously violated an international border.
The impact of the Russian brutality is deeply damaging:
“Russia has applied unprecedented military power . . . and it is of such amplitude that it would have scared much bigger states,” Alexander Lomaia, secretary of Georgia’s National Security Council, said in an interview. “This war has changed the whole system of values of pro-Western, liberal-minded people. I don’t want to be a bad prophet, but why would Russia stop here? There are other countries where Russia thinks it has a claim to territory.”
The U.S. needs to rush relief to Georgia and to continue the blunt condemnation of the Russians. It has taken the weekend for the MSM to figure out that Russia is attempting to turn an ill-advised effort by Georgia to reassert control over its land into a strategic thrust against the West, but the butchery and the bombing has clarified the picture. Russia is killing many innocent civilians far from the area where Georgia attempted –rightfully if not prudently– to move its forces. That’s the bottom line.

Bush to address Russia crisis at 5:15pm Eastern; Update: “Unacceptable”
Update: Bush…” “Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century,” Bush said a hastily announced statement at the White House.”

A press event is scheduled in the Rose Garden, according to USAT and other news outlets.
An interesting blog angle here on the government of Georgia’s efforts to communicate in the face of Russia’s cyberwar. (more)

Russia has been begging for years to be included in the planned European missile Defense Shield, we’ve been ignoring them for years, I think you analyze the problem wrong, poor handling of Russia caused this, and you think more poor handling will improve it? I think it’s time for change, this is your problem and we will have to fix it, but why did it come to this, and what can we do with all our units tied down in Afghanistan and Iraq, not a whole lot. Except maybe stop driving the Russian’s nuts with threats we can’t back up. Talk to them, get them closer to the EU, not push them away.

dummidumwit,
I knew it wouldn’t take long for liberals to blame the United States for Russian aggression and killings.
This is exactly the problem in our country, we are so full of self-hatred and emotional guilt that we are quick to blame ourselves.
You can bet that if Russia could they would invade your home and tie you up and make you listen to Stalin tapes.
FreeWheelin’ Franklin’ would be proud of you!
Someday you will have to grow up out of the comic book phase and see the reality of this world. American Strength is the only thing that has kept Russia and others from running amok.
Our pansy congress and our newest pansy Obama are giving the Russians all they want. They in turn will take all they want.
I just hope you guys wake up and stop smelling the hemp before it’s too late.
We are not one world and Russia and communism do not fit with freedom and capitalism.
Let me put it in comic book form so that you will understand,
We are the good guys and they are the bad guys!

And where are the units needed to teach them a lesson, and how long before the real threat in a Leninist China uses the industrial power they have in 10 years to make Russia look like a comic book threat. Lots of bad guys and we are tied up in Iraq for now, you rather call up the draft than try to get Russia to act right with carrots, that’s comic book thinking?

I’m glad you brought up China,
They are also listening to our pansy Congress and “World Citizen” Obama. They love it as well when we give them our secrets, as Bill Clinton did.
Backing down only encourages all of these dictators who want to expand.
We are no tied up in Iraq; we are finishing up. The best deterrent to all of these despots is to be strong and finish the job in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The draft is not the answer (that is the old war cry of the 60’s isn’t it).
The answer is to bring pride back to our country, our military and our youth. So, that we are in one accord, strong and willing to resist communisms, Islamist fascism and others. We need to build up America not tear it down.
The difference dummidumwit is that I see American Excellece and you see American guilt.

Just a little history for those who read these comments.
Freewheeln’ Franklin was a 60’s cartoon of the Fabuluous Furry Freak Brothers fame,
The Freak Brothers are a threesome of hippies (hippies were commonly known as “freaks” in 1970s U.S. slang) from San Francisco: Phineas Freakears, Freewheelin’ Franklin, and Fat Freddy. The trio are anti-heroes, taking large quantities of drugs and consistently defying authority. They are lazy (several storylines revolve around the “horror” of one of the brothers having to find work) and unreliable — particularly in the case of Fat Freddy.

The three Freak Brothers have very different personalities:
wikipedia:
* Freewheelin’ Franklin, although laid-back, is the most street-smart of the trio. Apparently he has always been on the streets. In one story he reveals that he grew up in an orphanage and never knew his parents. Tall and skinny, he has a big bulbous nose, a waterfall moustache, and a ponytail, and wears cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. He might be a biker if he didn’t spend all his money on drugs. His hair is red or blonde.

All true about the Freak brothers, one element missing Franklin Delano Roosevelt was very “Freewheeling”, I’m an unreconstructed “New Dealer” hence the Icon, and our respectful disagreements?

Thanks for the update,
That explains a lot.
In high school, I was compared to Fritz the Cat.
that doesn’t explain a lot other than something about a sweater I wore.
I once believed in big government, I began to see
and understand small government big individuals after starting a family, starting a business and opening my mind.

Ronald Reagan was an individual and a monumental one, I emotively feel that at this time we need an individual more in line with Roosevelt than Reagan, it is an academic argument over the function of government in a lot of ways. Barack Obama is offering a vision as was Reagan in 1980, he’s hovering around 50%, he will either connect like Reagan did and break out or McCain will win, they are both good men.

“he will either connect like Reagan did and break out or McCain will win, they are both good men.”
This is where you and I differ. I know McCain is not a saint. However I cannot possibly call Obama a good man. He has sat in a church for 20 years listening to a hate spewing racist pastor. He has shady friends that buy property so he can have the home he wants in an elitist neighborhood while same friend Rezko builds housing that is not fit for a dog to live in for the people Obama professes to care about. His judgement in friends, Rezko, phlegher, farakahn, ayers and more that I am sure I am not thinking of right now. If you lie down with dogs you get fleas. He has ties to nasty politicians in Kenya and has yet to tell the truth about his birth (easy enough, just show your BC). And then he is the one to throw out the race card (which I am sick to death of) I am an old enough woman that you just sometimes realize when something is not right about a person, so believe me when I tell you the tingle I get is not the same one Chris Wallace gets. I am at work right now so I must end here, I will be happy to come back and give you some more reasons I don’t think Obama is a “good” man. Oh BTW, I am an old hippie girl and I’m all for change, but it must be change we can live with and our grandchildren can live with.
Proud to be a savage freedom fighter!!!!

Thank you Marion for making great points.
There is are big differences between Reagan and Obama, and not just that Reagan was a conservative.
Reagan stood for principles and values,
Reagan had definite ideas and moral values.
Reagan had years of experience in Governing and leadership.
Reagan new what he stood for and so did Americans.
Reagan loved America and expressed this idea and others for over thirty years.
Reagan inspired Americans to love, and support their country.
Obama has charisma and floating ideas as his strengths.
Obama changes with the audience and cannot espouse a clear thought without a teleprompter.
Obama disdains American values and wants to tear America down and allow for our following Europe.
Americans project their wants and needs on Obama; he floats around ideas like a kite.
Reagan is miles ahead of Obama in being able to run the greatest most powerful country in the world’s History.
Obama needs to go back to the Senate and learn how the world works, Then maybe run for Governor and learn how to actually make decisions.
Then switch to conservative beliefs and policies and I’ll support him.
Thank you for your comment,
riggword.

Judging from the job Barack did with Chicago, I’d say most Americans, and RUSSIANS for that matter, don’t really look forward to having their hometowns and family neighborhoods turned into a death-defying crack alley shoot-fest anytime soon.
Haiti after a landslide didn’t look worse than Barack’s home District. One doesn’t have to be racist to not vote for this do-nothing fraud – just show anyone in America a picture of the District Barack was elected to fix, and ask them – ‘Wanna Live Here?’ And when they answer ‘Hell No’ say “Then VOTE FOR SOMEONE OTHER THAN OBAMA!”
This guy is a mistake waiting to end the world. Case closed.

Go look at 2009’s site, Right wing Hate Speech at it’s finest. Now we don’t have to feel guilty when we tear Reagan to shreds. It’s easy, he was a politician like anyone else.

For all the tough talk, America has very little leverage in this matter. This is why Georgia had to accept concessions that were hard to swallow.
“McCain is ready to lead America in these dangerous times.” Riggword, is their ever a time that’s not dangerous?

Good Point abajan,
American has been in the center of perilous times for a long time. When you are the world’s hope for justice and prosperity then you will be in danger from jealous and power seeking entities. When you are on the top everybody is gunning for you. Thank you again for reminding us all of the dangers that constantly surround America. Even more reason to elect McCain.
Having said that, we have to remember that no enemy has ever attacked us on the continent and killed over 3,000 citizens before 9-11. Our current problems involve bombs that can destroy cities. Our current enemies are hidden in our country and around the world. This is a dangerous thing.
Now we have some of our old enemies resurfacing and rattling their sabers. A weak American military posture will not benefit our present and future ability to subdue our enemies without going to war. Standing strong, facing down, and caring a big stick is the best deterrent to actual war.
Obama is a little stick guy. He is an appeaser; appeasement only encourages dictators and thugs. McCain is a strong military man. The nations that want to see us fall are many and they are encouraged by a weak American Congress and hoping for a weak American president. Make no mistake, Obama will Ah and Um America into a cowering posture. Little dogs can chase off big dogs when they cower.
We must stand strong and not shrug, Obama Shrugs.
Obama will Windmill American into a third rate country.

IMO the “Ahs and Ums” (though I would agree it’s a bad habit of many a public speaker) is simply an indication of Obama choosing his words carefully. Remember, there are many in the media that hang on every single utterance and make a mountain out of a molehill. For this reason, both candidates need to carefully watch their words.
BTW, you should know that I’m not an American. I live on an island in the Caribbean called Barbados (where a pop star named Rihanna was born and raised). Nevertheless, Barbadians (and West Indians as a whole, I think) have a keen interest in U.S. politics.
The great majority of us in the Caribbean would love to see Obama in the Oval Office. Why? Because it’s about time America elected an African American president. Mind you, the strange thing is that most of us also feel that a McCain presidency would better serve this region insofar as trade is concerned. That’s because it has usually redounded to our benefit trade wise when a Republican occupies the White House. Democrats tend to be more protectionist in there policies. Then again, Charlie Rangle (D), head of the powerful and influential House Ways and Means Committee has been a very good friend to this region for some time.

“The great majority of us in the Caribbean would love to see Obama in the Oval Office. Why? Because it’s about time America elected an African American president.”
So, are you saying that that most of the people from the Caribbean are all racist?
That’s like saying it is about time we elected a one-eyed person. This kind of thinking is exactly one of the problems in America and the world.
I thought you were from outside U.S. land because of your I.D. information.
